Options
WL
is an 830 surface acre reservoir. Some areas are
too shallow to enter by boat. The MPOA By Laws
clearly state that the purpose of the MPOA is “To
conduct and promote the Wonder Lake recreation Area for the
improvement of civic and social welfare and to control and
maintain the lake bottom and other community property pertinent
thereof, and do any and all acts necessary to further said
objectives.”
Our
Lake was created more than 78 years ago. To date
it has accumulated approximately 3 million cubic yards of
sediment. Data
from our consultants and Federal Agencies indicate that in
some areas the sediment is 4 to 6 feet thick.
The
Lake Condition is degraded in terms of water quality, navigational
access and excessive rough fish. Improvement in watershed
management has reduced the amount of sediment entering and
remaining in Wonder Lake by 71%. Sediment core samples
show no elevated levels of regulated contaminates. The
lake can be hydraulically dredged of 2.5 million cubic yards
of sediment in just over two years.
Once
dredged there will be 80 to 100 additional acres of boating
access, increase the average depth from 4 – 6 feet
to 10 - 12 feet, significantly improve water quality and
clarity, greatly enhance fish habitat and enhance and protect
the value of all property with deeded lake rights .
